The finish line is in sight. Just a few more steps. Undergraduate and graduate students are required to complete graduation applications, surveys and graduate thesis reviews.

Submitting a graduation application means:

Your degree will be awarded
You will receive a diploma
You will receive important Commencement information
Your name will appear in the Commencement program

Diplomas

Diplomas are not distributed at commencement ceremonies. You will receive an email from the School of Science Dean's Office once your diploma has arrived. At that time, you can choose to pick up your diploma in the School of Science Dean's Office or have it mailed to you. The approximate diploma delivery schedules are:

December graduates - mid-March
May graduates - mid-July
August graduates - mid-October

Diploma covers are presented at the IUPUI "Main" ceremony. No diploma covers are presented at the School of Science ceremony. However, covers will also be available from the School of Science Dean's office once the diplomas are ready for pick up.

Undergraduate student graduation

School of Science undergraduate students who have submitted the graduation application will have an audit prepared approximately six weeks before the start of their final semester/summer session.

Graduation audits are only prepared for students after they have registered for their final semester.
The School of Science Dean's Office and the student's major department will review the graduation audit and determine if the student is recommended for graduation.
An email will be sent to the student regarding the graduation recommendation. Students who are not recommended for graduation will be provided with the list of remaining requirements that need to be completed before recommendation will be considered.
Any student whose remaining requirements are not completed in a timely manner will be removed from the graduation list.

Candidacy (CAND) enrollment

Enrollment in CAND 99100 is only required for students who are not registered for any other course in the semester of graduation. This includes, for example, students completing course work with prior approval at another university, or students finishing research or an Incomplete.

Deadlines, procedures, submission methods, formatting guidelines, and other thesis/dissertation information is available on the IUPUI Graduate Office website.

Purdue program students—on the IUPUI Graduate Office website, use the Purdue Gradute Student link in the upper right corner. On the proceeding page, click the Depositing a Thesis or Dissertation button.
IU students—on the IUPUI Gradute Office website, navigate to the Theses & Dissertations page.

Thesis format review

Purdue graduate thesis students need to share their thesis document via Secure Share for thesis format review. Be sure to send the password in a separate email to pugrad@iupui.edu.
IU graduate thesis students need to contact gradrec@iupui.edu for thesis format review.

Graduate Student Examination deadlines & Candidacy (CAND) enrollment

If you are entering the last semester of your Ph.D. or M.S. degree, it is important to know that graduation deadlines are set separately by Purdue University or Indiana University.

Purdue graduate and doctoral students—enrollment in CAND 99100 or CAND 99200 is required in the term of graduation. Enrollment is dependent on remaining requirements. See the table below for more information.

	Eligibility/Purpose
CAND 99100	No cost, no credit course used for Purdue graduate school students planning to graduate at the end of the semester (May, August or December), who need some or all of the 3 items: course work, defense/exam, and thesis deposit. Must be taken with at least one credit hour of fee-bearing course(s). For thesis students, enrollment must include research at the level of the degree being completed (MS 69800 or PhD 69900).
CAND 99200	One-time use course with a reduced fee. Used for Purdue MS or PhD graduate school thesis students planning to graduate by the end of the semester (May, August or December), who have completed all coursework, who only need to defend and/or deposit their thesis. Non-thesis students who have not yet completed the Directed Project or have 1 or more Incomplete (I) grades can also register in CAND 99200. Exception form and Instructor Permission are required. Please contact your department graduate coordinator for assistance. This course must be dropped if graduation is deferred to another semester to avoid having an "F" on the transcript.
