Honors Convocation video

Watch the awards presentation.

Description of the video:

Thank you for taking the time to watch this year’s virtual honors convocation video!

I’m jane williams, associate dean of academic affairs in the school of science here at iupui.

This the 47th annual school of science honors convocation, and while it looks a little different than in previous years, we’re just as excited to honor the achievements of our amazing students.

We also at this time recognize important staff and faculty who contribute to the success and excellence at the school of science.

On behalf of the faculty, staff, and friends of the school, i want to tell you that we are proud of your achievements and we are proud that you are part of the school of science family.

Some of you may be reaching the end of your academic career and others may be only beginning, but, no matter where you are in your education, you have proven that you are succeeding.

I would now like to introduce the school of science dean and professor of physics, dr. John ditusa.
Welcome to the school of science honors convocation.

I am dr. John ditusa, dean of the purdue school of science at iupui.

I joined the iupui family in august, and i would much prefer to meet all of you in person, but i’m glad we can recognize some of the notable achievements of our wonderful students, staff and faculty in this virtual event.

Since i arrived here at iupui, i have been continuously amazed at the great things that our student, faculty and staff have accomplished.

While facing a global pandemic, our science community has shown perseverence, determination, and above all else, a commitment to helping others.

Faculty, staff and students across the school stepped up to donate supplies and help fight covid in a myriad of ways from developing statistical models tht show virus spread, to working on a covid breathalizer, to helping us all fight the lonliness of working from home, and in understanding the uneven effects the virus has had within our community.

The incredible work you have done has also been recognized by the campus and the indiana university system.
I am very proud of our student, staff and faculty for what they have accomplished in the difficult year.

This year, 50 of the top 100 students are science majors, a record number for the school of science.

Five of our graduate students were named to the elite 50, and our faculty and staff have been recognized with research trailblazer awards, women’s history month leadership awards, and even the iu presidential bicentennial medal.
I am pleased to recognize your hard work and achievements, and i congratulate you all on a job well done.

The achievements of the students are evidence that they have combined talent, hard work and perseverance to excel in a challenging academic environment.

We are pleased to honor them, along with our faculty and staff award participants.

Award recipients will be recognized for their award under each department, program, or school level designation.
