Betsy Fife endows $1.5 million gift to the School of Science in honor of chemistry chair emeritus
INDIANAPOLIS -- The School of Science at IUPUI has received a $1.5 million planned gift from Betsy L. Fife. The gift will endow a chair within the chemistry department in honor of Fife's late husband, Wilmer K. Fife.
Shiaofen Fang will serve as School of Science Interim Dean
IUPUI Chancellor Nasser H. Paydar recently announced an interim dean appointment for the School of Science. Shiaofen Fang, Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Computer and Information Science, has been chosen to serve as interim dean of the School of Science effective July 1, 2019.
2019 Spirit of Philanthropy awardees announced
More than 30 faculty, staff, alumni and community organizations were announced as recipients of the 2019 IUPUI Spirit of Philanthropy Award. The School of Science honored Bart Ng, Ph.D., with this year's award. Ng is School of Science dean emeritus and M.L. Bittinger Chair Professor Emeritus for the Department of Mathematical Sciences.
Geology alumnus and researcher presented at the annual Mirsky Lecture
IUPUI School of Science alumnus and internationally recognized researcher Eric Hiatt, Ph.D., presented at the 7th Annual Drs. Arthur and Patricia Mirsky Lecture. An award-winning professor at the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh, Hiatt presented "Earth's Last Global Ice Age: Biosphere and Geosphere Interactions on an Ice-Covered World" at the April 9 event.

The William M. Plater Civic Engagement Medallion recognizes graduating students that have demonstrated exceptional dedication to their community while attending IUPUI. Amy Maidi receives senior academic advisor distinction
As a constant advocate and supporter for forensic science students, Amy Maidi is a force for student success within the School of Science. In recognition of her achievements and dedication, Maidi has been promoted to senior academic advisor. Maidi has served as an academic advisor for the Forensic and Investigative Sciences program since 2012.
