INDIANAPOLIS- Computer Science PhD students Yuankun Fu and Feng Li (advised by Professor Fengguang Song) submitted research on the performance analysis and optimization of In-situ integration of simulation with data analysis: zipping applications up.

IUPUI field-data study finds no evidence of racial bias in predictive policing

INDIANAPOLIS - While predictive policing aims to improve the effectiveness of police patrols, there is concern that these algorithms may lead police to target minority communities and result in discriminatory arrests.  An IUPUI School of Science computer scientist conducted the first study to look at real-time field data from Los Angeles, CA and found predictive policing did not result in biased arrests. p_a_f_csi_george-mohler.png

Ambition drives computer science students into business

There's more to artificial intelligence -- AI -- than robots taking over the world. Zachary Balda and Brandon Boynton say what they do is machine learning, a subset of AI. Word choice aside though, it kind of sounds like they're helping machines replace the need for a human brain.

CS grad students take second place in Indiana Medicaid Data Challenge

INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI team of Wen-Hao Chiang, Junfeng Liu, Ziwei Fan and Bo Peng under the guidance of Computer Science Assistant Professor, Dr. Xia Ning presented a comprehensive pattern analysis for new insight to better support future Medicaid program and public health decisions. They integrated the aggregated Medicaid information data of the past five years with third-party data from multiple sources, including the local census and economic data on county levels and city levels and incorporated machine-learning techniques in their analysis.
