New Student Orientation
Registration for IUPUI New Student Orientation is now open and sessions will be held in June and July. Register as soon as possible and choose an early orientation date to increase your chances of getting your preferred class schedule.
BEFORE YOU REGISTER
Once these tasks have been completed, you are ready to register online for New Student Orientation. Be sure to register for an early orientation date to increase your chances of getting the class schedule you desire!
BEFORE YOU ATTEND ORIENTATION
1) Take your required placement exams.
Be sure to sign up when you register for orientation. Your academic advisor will need to know your scores, or at least know that you've taken your exam(s), before registering you for classes. While specific requirements vary by major, both new and transfer students may need to complete a number of placement exams. Learn more.
2) Ensure you have submitted AP and dual-enrollment course info to the IUPUI Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
3) Decide which freshmen program is right for you.
All incoming freshmen must select a freshmen experience for the fall semester. Decide which freshmen program is right for you:
First Year Experience Course: Students at IUPUI take a first year experience course to ease the transition into college. Within the School of Science you might take our “Windows on Science” first year experience course during your first semester.
Or you might opt for the next level of commitment and reward and do the Summer Bridge version of the windows course or join a Themed Learning Community:
Summer Bridge: This option entails beginning the Windows course two weeks prior to the start of the Fall semester. In those two weeks, students begin to cover some of the typical Windows course content, but students also receive intensive refreshers on Math, primers on college-level reading and writing. Learn more.
Themed Learning Communities: The third option, which provides the most support to incoming students, is to enroll in a Themed Learning Community. Typically, a TLC involves the same students enrolling in first year experience course plus an intro-level course in the major plus a related general education course from another discipline. The instructional team in a TLC works to weave the chosen theme through the assignments and topics covered in all three courses. Learn more.
WHAT IS ORIENTATION?
Orientation, which is required for all incoming freshmen, will introduce you to the IUPUI campus, student activities, and support services. You will also register for your first semester of classes at orientation. Whether this is your first college experience or you are transferring from another university, we are here to ensure you have everything you need for the first day.
First-Year Student (Freshman) Orientation
Freshmen orientation is a two-day event. During orientation, you will stay in on-campus housing for the night, participate in academic planning sessions and interact with student clubs and organizations.
Transfer Student Orientation
Transfer Orientation is a one-day event and was developed for students who have completed 18 or more credit hours at another university. Your transfer orientation day will introduce you to many different campus resources, allow you to meet new people, help you explore a variety of engaging opportunities, and plan classes for the fall semester.
