Biology Major Named Outstanding Woman Student Leader
The IUPUI Office for Women and the Office of Student Involvement honored seven faculty and staff and four students as Outstanding Woman Leaders at the annual Women’s Leadership Reception. The reception was held at the conclusion of Women’s History Month in March.
The Office of Student Involvement named Dheevena Reddy, biology major in the Purdue School of Science at IUPUI as one of three Outstanding Woman Student Leaders. Reddy has served as President of the Alpha Lambda Delta honor society and as Vice President of Membership for IUPUI's Student Organization for Alumni Relations (SOAR).
Cora Griffin, a public affairs major in the IU School of Public and Environmental Affairs at IUPUI; and Jeannie Sego, an interior design major in the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology were also honored as Outstanding Woman Student Leaders.
This year, the Office of Student Involvement offered a new award, “Inspirational Woman Student.” Rebeca Rodriguez, a junior in the IU School of Social Work, is the first recipient of the new award.
This year’s faculty and staff winners were: Faculty "veteran" award to Professor Eleanor DeArman Kinney, IU School of Law – Indianapolis; Faculty "newcomer" award to Assistant Professor Carmen Luca-Sugawara, IU School of Social Work; Staff “veteran” awards –Sue Herrell, executive assistant, Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Faculties, and Terri Talbert-Hatch, assistant dean for student services, Purdue School of Engineering and Technology at IUPUI; Staff “newcomer” award – Patty Mathison, community service coordinator, Center for Service and Learning and Office for Student Involvement. The “veteran” award is for faculty or staff members who have been at IUPUI over five years and the “newcomer” designation are for those who have been here less than five.
