Parking

Visitor Parking

Visitor parking is identified in yellow on the campus parking map. Metered parking closest to the School of Science building is also available in two adjacent lots, on the corner of Blackford St. and Vermont St.

  • The closest visitor garage is the Gateway garage on 525 North Blackford St.
  • Accross all lots and garages there are handicap accessible spaces.

Student Parking

If you are a current student, you can buy a parking permit online, either by credit card or by billing the cost to your student account. You will receive your permit by mail, and can print a temporary permit to use in the interim.

Alternative Transportation

Please understand that parking is at a premium on an urban campus like IUPUI, but you do have options. Students can obtain an S Pass to use any IndyGo fixed route service from the Jagtag (Campus Card Services) Office on the second floor of the IUPUI Campus Center.

Campus Shuttle

IUPUI also operates a free shuttle system, operating every Monday through Friday, with the exception of university holidays.

Lodging

Indianapolis is a major convention, leisure, and sporting destination and has lots of great places to stay. But because downtown stays so busy, it pays to plan ahead! This is especially true if you're thinking of visiting in May -- the month of the Indy 500 race!

From the North or Northeast

Take I-465 West, which will turn into I-465 South just beyond exit 25 at Michigan Road/US 421. Take exit 20 for I-65 South. The junction is just beyond the 71st street exit from I-465. Proceed on I-65 south about 9 miles. Take exit 114 for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street/West St. Proceed south on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street for about 0.4 miles through three stoplights. Continue through last light in series of four to merge onto West Street. Proceed south on West Street about .3 miles to Michigan Street. Turn right on Michigan Street to enter campus.

From the Northwest (I-65 from Chicago)

Proceed on I-65 toward downtown Indianapolis. Take exit 114, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street/West Street. Proceed south on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street for about 0.4 miles through three stoplights. Continue through last light in series of four to merge onto West Street. Proceed south on West Street about .3 miles to Michigan Street. Turn right on Michigan Street to enter campus.

From the East (I-70 from Columbus, I-74 from Cincinnati)

From I-74, at the junction with I-465 take I-465 North. At the junction of I-465 North with I-70, take I-70 west. From I-70 heading west, proceed toward downtown Indianapolis. Several freeways come together near the IUPUI campus. Stay in lanes for I-65 Chicago as you near the city. DO NOT follow signs for I-70 West after you pass the Rural Street exit. The exit for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street/West Street is a LEFT EXIT. Take exit 114 for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street/West Street.
Proceed south on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street for about 0.4 miles through three stoplights. Continue through last light in series of four to merge onto West Street. Proceed south on West Street about .3 miles to Michigan Street. Turn right on Michigan Street to enter campus.

From the South (I-65 from Louisville, I-70 from St. Louis)

Proceed toward downtown Indianapolis on I-65 and continue following signs for Chicago. Stay in the right hand lanes past the I-70 West Exit, then shift to the left-hand lanes. The lanes on the right go to Columbus, OH. The exit for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street/West Street is a LEFT EXIT. Take exit 114 for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street/West Street. Proceed south on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street for about 0.4 miles through three stoplights. Continue through last light in series of four to merge onto West Street. Proceed south on West Street about .3 miles to Michigan Street. Turn right on Michigan Street to enter campus.

From the West (I-70 from St. Louis, I-74 from Champaign/Urbana)

From I-74, exit south on I-465 and continue on I-465 to Airport Expressway. Take Airport Expressway East (towards Downtown Indianapolis) and it will merge with I-70. On I-70, proceed toward downtown Indianapolis. Stay in the left hand lanes in order to merge onto I-65, heading for Chicago. On I-65, proceed toward downtown Indianapolis and continue following signs for Chicago. Stay in the left hand lanes. The lanes on the right go to Columbus, OH. The exit for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street/West Street is a LEFT EXIT. Take exit 114 for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street/West Street.
